A Story about a Neighborhood Bistro

Chef and owner Jay Solomon, (click to view Jay Solomon's Biography) has been in the restaurant business for over twenty years. In addition he has written over a dozen cookbooks, taught hundreds of cooking classes, and served thousands of happy customers.

In Ithaca, New York, way back in 1985, Jay opened J.J.'s Cafe, and later, Jay's Caribbean Cafe, a restaurant that inspired the cookbook "A Taste of the Tropics" (still in print and available at Amazon.com). In 1998 Jay and his wife Emily moved to Denver and opened Emily's Gourmet at 16th and Champa, near the 16th Street Mall.  

In 2004, Jay and Emily opened Jay's Patio Cafe on Upper 15th Street in the revitalized Highlands East neighborhood.  In 2005, Jay and Emily opened Eat Street in the Children's Museum, a cute eatery featuring a healthy gourmet menu that appeals to grown-ups and children alike (and we've added an espresso a machine!). In 2006, we opened Hot Ticket Café in the Bonfils Center, (the home of the prestigious Denver Center Theater Company) where we serve scrumptious pre-theater fare with gourmet flair.

Jay's Patio Café, Hot Ticket Café, and Eat Street together are a "team effort," and over the years we have been lucky to have a fantastic staff, including Mary, Chase, Lauren, Abbie, Maria, Louise, Melissa, Elin, Audrey, Toya, Ariel, Jackie, and Yvonne.  

Jay and Emily have three children: Maddie (the big sister) and twins Noah and Bella.
